Connecticut Filmmaker Ralph Server wins grand jury prize
25 Sep 2004
September 25, 2004 -- Ralph F. Server, a native of Wallingford, CT
made his directorial debut with the film WITHOUT MERCY. "It's a
hard-hitting film, not for the squeemish," he said. "There are
things in this film that have never been on film before. I
originally wanted Sandra Bullock for the role of the American
reporter but I couldn't imagine her taking off her clothes for the
rape scene. Neither could she since she turned the role down."
Server's film won the grand jury prize for best picture at the New
York International Film Festival and competed against 300 entries.
The film examines the last six days in the life of Ken McElroy, the
man they called "King." Server received his award on August 17,
2004 at Opalines in New York City.
